Since the 1st October 2012 all security companies or individuals installing access control systems or CCTV systems are required by law to be registered with the Private Security Authority (PSA licenced). Companies/individuals must also be registered with one of the relevant regulatory bodies e.g. NSAI (National Standards Authority of Ireland).
If a company or individual installs, maintains, services or repairs a CCTV system or access control system without a PSA licence it is deemed to be an offense under the Private Security Services Act.
Penalties range from fines of up to €3,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 12 months for the company or individual installing the system. Similarly, any person or company that employs an unlicensed CCTV or Access Control contractor will also be breaking the law and subject to prosecution. A person includes householders and businesses.
In order to obtain a licence from the PSA, a company must prove compliance with national and European standards, be tax compliant and undergo criminal record checking.
